SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD)

Have you noticed a subtle shift in the air over the last few weeks?

The evenings a little cooler, a little darker and a certain feeling that summer is ending and Autumn is beginning?

I love Autumn, the crisp mornings the crunchy leaves, jumpers and woolly boots, BUT, over recent years I also feel apprehensive about the approaching dark months of Winter.

For a few years I ''struggled' through Winter, craving sunlight and blue skies.

Nevertheless, I found nature connection (like Shinrin Yoku) and seasonal Ayurvedic principles have given me tools to reduce the heaviness I experienced.

As part of my ongoing training in Shinrin Yoku I would like to conduct a study of how nature connection and seasonal practices can mitigate the effects of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

"Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern. SAD is sometimes known as 'winter depression' because symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter." NHS

Symptoms of SAD include:

•lack of energy, feeling lethargic and sleepy during the day

•Not wanting to see people

•Feeling sad, low, tearful

•Sleeping too much

•difficulty waking up in the mornings

•loss of pleasure/interest in normal everyday activities

I am looking for participants who experience some form of low mood/low energy that feels worse during the Winter and who would be interested in adding some simple tweaks to their daily routine for a period of approx 12 weeks.

I would need to discuss the study with you prior to starting mid October, touch base fortnightly and follow up mid February to collate findings.

(Nb You don't have to have been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder to participate.)

Please get in touch if you are interested
