Do you ever get the feeling that you would just like to step off this hamster-wheel or merry-go-round? Just for a moment, to catch your breath, get some rest, some head space or simply to sit, no need to think or do anything...... just for a bit?
To 'retreat' is the act of withdrawing, taking time away from our everyday lives. Withdrawing yourself from your current situation offers you the opportunity to change your outlook and how you deal with your struggles and is an essential remedy to modern living.
There are many ways we can 'retreat'. You might retreat to a comfy chair with a cuppa and good book for an hour, or take yourself out for a long walk in the local park or to the nearest empty beach. When we retreat it is a sense of escapism, space and time to rest the mind, recharge and return renewed to our everyday lives.
Or, you could invest time and money and take yourself off on week or 10 day retreat, where the days schedule, activities and meals are all taken care off. It’s important to remember that a retreat is a purposeful getaway, to help you reconnect with yourself. Where a holiday typically focuses your attention outward, a retreat helps you to shift the focus inward. Retreats are wonderful ways to encourage healing and rediscovering your sense of self.
I did just that last week, I withdrew from my normal responsibilities and let someone else guide me through my day. We had two yoga classes and day and at least 2 cold water swims each day, nutritious food was provided at breakfast, lunch and dinner and I had plenty of time for reflection and walking in nature, enabling me to come back renewed.
You don't have to take a week off work or even give up a whole weekend. When you go on a retreat, you will learn practical ways to bring calm into your everyday life. Creating a routine of daily meditation, better nutrition and daily exercise will benefit your health in the long run.
Going on a Day Retreat can be a great start. It's enough time to make real difference but easy enough to commit to, especially if it's not too far away.
This month I am offering you the opportunity to 'retreat' with me. You will learn practical ways to bring a sense of balance into your life, whether that be with physical activities, meditation or food as medicine.
